Ladybugs on cover from Floating Post Office in India

India Post released a set of four stamps and a Miniature sheet featuring Ladybird Beetles on 23 rd February. Ladybugs, also called lady beetles or ladybird beetles, are a very beneficial group. They are natural enemies of many insects, especially aphids and other sap feeders. A single lady beetle may eat as many as 5,000 aphids in its lifetime .Lady bird beetles are found in most agricultural and garden habitats. Their presence indicates that natural biological control is occurring.

This cover was sent from famous floating post-office on Dal Lake, Srinagar, in Kashmir. The seal used on everything posted from the Floating Post Office is unique – along with the date and address, it bears the design of a boatman rowing a shikara on the Dal Lake.

Thank you Kamran!

Historical Vehicles on cover from Czech Republic

I received a cover from Czech Republic with Historical Vehicles, issued on 02.09.2015.

First car is Škoda Rapid 1500 (1947). The Škoda Rapid was introduced in 1935 by the Czechoslovakian automotive manufacturer Škoda, and was in production until World War II with some production during and after the war until 1947. Škoda introduced a new line of cars in 1930s which significantly differed from its previous products. A new design of chassis with backbone tube and all-around independent suspension was developed under the leadership of chief engineer Vladimír Matouš and derived from the one first introduced by Hans Ledwinka in Tatra.

Second car is Škoda 1201 (1955). The Škoda 1201 was a family car produced by Czechoslovakian automaker AZNP at their plant in Mladá Boleslav. Saloon and estate versions were offered along with a panel van. The car was released in 1954 as a successor to the Škoda 1200. The car was powered by a four-cylinder 1221 cc ohv water-cooled engine producing at maximum power 33 kW at 4,200 rpm. The four-speed gear-box included synchromesh on the top three ratios, power being delivered to the rear wheels via a jointed prop shaft.

Thank you Michaela!
