The 25th Anniversary of the Vienna Philharmonic Gold Coin on cover from Austria

The Vienna Philharmonic is a bullion coin of gold, silver, or platinum, produced by Münze Österreich AG. It is named for the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra, which inspires the design of both sides of the coins. The one troy ounce gold version was first introduced in 1989 with a face value of 2,000 Austrian schillings and is generally one of the world's best selling bullion coins. In 2002, with the adoption of the euro currency, the nominal value of the one ounce coin was changed to €100. Austrian post commemorated 25th anniversary of coin with these two beautiful stamps printed in ffset lithography and hot stamping, and released on 5.11.2014.

It's hard to show on scanned copy how this gold foil looks incredible realistic, so i took a photo with my phone camera in different angle. Simply beautiful!

Thank you, Rosmarie!

Postcard from Maldives

The Maldives archipelago is located on the Chagos-Laccadive Ridge, a vast submarine mountain range in the Indian Ocean, which also forms a terrestrial ecoregion, together with the Chagos Archipelago and Lakshadweep. With an average ground-level elevation of 1.5 meters above sea level, it is the world's lowest country, with even its highest natural point being one of the lowest in the world, at 5.1 meters. Due to the consequent risks posed by rising sea levels, the government pledged in 2009 to make the Maldives a carbon-neutral country by 2019.

Stamp on postcard is from set Marine fauna, issued on 25.5.2018.

Thank you, Carlos!

Canada's northernmost post office: Eureka - "The Garden Spot of the Arctic"

There's many interesting post offices in Canada, and this is one of them,  Eureka - "The Garden Spot of the Arctic".Eureka is a small research base on Fosheim Peninsula, Ellesmere Island, Qikiqtaaluk Region, in the Canadian territory of Nunavut. It is located on the north side of Slidre Fiord, which enters Eureka Sound farther west. Eureka was founded on April 11, 1947, as part of a requirement to set up a network of Arctic weather stations. On this date, 100 tonnes of supplies were airlifted to a promising spot on Ellesmere Island, and five prefabricated Jamesway huts were constructed. Regular weather observations began on January 1, 1948. The station has expanded over the years. At its peak, in the 1970s, at least fifteen staff were on site; in 2005, it reported a permanent population of zero with at least 8 staff on a continuous rotational basis. Of course, there is also post office which cancel your mail with this beautiful postmarks.

My friend Trevor used another Star Trek postpaid postcard for this, and this one is dedicated to another classic episode of original Star Trek show - The City on the Edge of Forever.

Thanks a lot, Trevor!

Postcard from Havana, Cuba

Havana is the capital city, largest city, province, major port, and leading commercial center of Cuba. The city has a population of 2.1 million inhabitants, and it spans a total of 781.58 km2. The city of Havana was founded by the Spanish in the 16th century and due to its strategic location it served as a springboard for the Spanish conquest of the Americas, becoming a stopping point for treasure-laden Spanish galleons returning to Spain. The King Philip II of Spain granted Havana the title of City in 1592. Walls as well as forts were built to protect the old city. The sinking of the U.S. battleship Maine in Havana's harbor in 1898 was the immediate cause of the Spanish–American War.

Stamp on postcard is The 60th Anniversary of the Arrival of Fidel Castro to Batabano onboard Pinero, issued on 16.5.2015.

Thank you, Wolfgang!

Europa CEPT 2019 National Birds on cover from Liechtenstein

“National Bird” is this year’s theme of the Europa stamps issued by PostEurop, the trade association of European public postal operators. As Liechtenstein does not have a national bird of its own, Philately has decided to depict the impressive golden eagle and is presenting it with the two motifs “Golden Eagle Approaching” and “Golden Eagle on the Lookout” (face value: CHF 1.50 each) as a combined print on a small sheet of 10 stamps. Owing to Liechtenstein’s small size and the home range of around 50 square kilometres that a golden eagle maintains, the country only has a few pairs of these birds of prey. The king of the air as the bird is also often called has dark brown feathers with a lighter golden brown head and neck. It has a wingspan of more than two metres and its prey includes mammals, birds and carrion. Stamps are issued on 4.3.2019.

Thank you, Rosmarie!

Animals in the Dutch Wadden on cover from Netherlands

The Dutch wadden region has five inhabited and three uninhabited islands. The ‘Afsluitdijk’ (Enclosure Dam) forms a solid border with the freshwater IJsselmeer. The sea dikes along the Holland, Frisian and Groningen coasts protect the sea clay regions, formed when the marshes were reclaimed. The German border lies to the east, by the Ems-Dollard estuary. Because the tidal differences in the Dutch Wadden Sea are not great (1 to 2 meters), the currents are relatively low, allowing lots of sand and mud to subside. Many banks lay exposed during low tide, which is good for seals and shorebirds. This wonderful mini sheet is issued on 6.5.2003.

Thank you, Albert!

Lucky pig on First day cover from Switzerland

In Switzerland, pink pig is a symbol of good luck. But where does this idea come from? The most likely explanation can be found in a medieval custom: in traditional competitions, the worst-performing participant was not only ridiculed, but often also received a piglet as a consolation prize. This was a stroke of luck, however, as pigs were very valuable in those days: they did not need expensive fodder, produced lots of offspring and were quickly ready for slaughter. Rather than having the normal, rectangular shape of a stamp, this one is round with smooth edges – just like a genuine lucky pig. But that’s not all, because the stamp itself is actually soft to the touch and has a velvety surface that really makes you want to stroke the happy pink pig. To give the stamp its softness, the paper first had to be sprinkled with soft particles before being printed. This is why these stamps took three whole months to be completed.

Thank you, Rosmarie!

Flags of the World Series: Macedonia

Macedonia is a country in the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe. It is one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia. It recently changed name to North Macedonia, but i managed to swap this card before new changed card arrive. The country became a member of the United Nations in April 1993, but as a result of a dispute with Greece over the name "Macedonia", it was admitted under the provisional description the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. In June 2018, Macedonia and Greece resolved the conflict with an agreement that the country should rename itself Republic of North Macedonia. This renaming came into effect in February 2019, with a several-months-long transition for passports, license plates, currency, customs, border signs, and government websites, among other things.

Sender used two definitive stamps which depicts city Struga. Stamp is part of set issued on 11.11.2009.

Thank you, Marko!

Flags of the World Series: São Tomé and Príncipe

São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in the Gulf of Guinea, off the western equatorial coast of Central Africa. It consists of two archipelagos around the two main islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, about 140 kilometres apart and about 250 and 225 kilometres off the northwestern coast of Gabon. The islands were uninhabited until their discovery by Portuguese explorers in the 15th century. Gradually colonised and settled by the Portuguese throughout the 16th century, they collectively served as a vital commercial and trade center for the Atlantic slave trade. The rich volcanic soil and close proximity to the Equator made São Tomé and Príncipe ideal for sugar cultivation, followed later by cash crops such as coffee and cocoa; the lucrative plantation economy was heavily dependent upon imported African slaves. Cycles of social unrest and economic instability throughout the 19th and 20th centuries culminated in peaceful independence in 1975. São Tomé and Príncipe has since remained one of Africa's most stable and democratic countries.

Very nice matching flag stamp, but i didn't found info when is released.

And here you can see location of this smallest African country.

Thank you, Robert!

Cover sent by US military post in Germany

This cover is sent by US military post in Germany, from one of many US military facilities in Germany. APO is short for Army Post Office and AE is used for armed forces in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Canada (AP is for the Pacific; and AA is the Americas excluding Canada), and number behind them is a ZIP-code. Nice army related stamps on right side: Purple heart, issued on 11.10.2014. and World War I - Turning the Tide, issued on 27.7.2018.

The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving, on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military. With its forerunner, the Badge of Military Merit, which took the form of a heart made of purple cloth, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members – the only earlier award being the obsolete Fidelity Medallion.

Additional stamp on left side is definitive stamp Grapes, issued on 24.2.2017.

Thank you, Kathy!

Historical vehicles on cover from Czech Republic

Historical vehicles is long running and one of my favorite series from Czech Republic. On this cover you can see one complete set issued on 12.6.2013 and half of set issued on 21.9.2016, and also one definitive flower stamp.

The Tatra 15/30 is a unique four-seat engine-driven draisine (railcar mounted on a four-wheel undercarrige). The draisin has a front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. It is driven by a boxer air-cooled, flat, four-cylinder with a capacity of 1,680 cc and an output of 18 kW (24 HP). It has a two-speed gear. The maximum speed is 80 km/h.

The workshop where the first motorcycles Čechie-Böhmerland were built was set up in 1925 in Krásná Lípa by Albin Hugo Leibisch (1888-1965). He began by building custom motorcycles. It took some time before they were made in series.

The Tatra 87 (T87) was a car built by Czechoslovak manufacturer Tatra. It was powered by a rear-mounted 2.9-litre air-cooled 90-degree overhead cam V8 engine that produced 85 horsepower and could drive the car at nearly 160 km/h. It is ranked among the fastest production cars of its time.

And definitive stamp is Azalka (Rosebay), issued on 19.3.2018.

Year of the Pig on registered cover from China

The Pig is the twelfth of all zodiac animals. According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived to his party. Pig was late because he overslept. Another story says that a wolf destroyed his house. He had to rebuild his home before he could set off. When he arrived, he was the last one and could only take twelfth place. Their chubby faces and big ears are signs of fortune as well. This year is Year of the Pig, and Chinese Post issued pair of lovely stamps on 5.1.2019.

Other stamps on cover:
Xing Hua Duo Tian (from set Beautiful China), issued on 19.5.2013.
Yunnan Nuthatch (Sitta yunnanensis), issued on 1.1.2004.
Greeting Card Stamp, issued on 8.8.2013.
