Painted in 1865 by Claude Monet, 'Luncheon on the Grass' shows a group of sophisticated ladies and gentlemen enjoying a morning picnic in a forest. Monet regularly viewed this popular pastime but this particular piece was painted indoors while one of his friends posed as several figures in the scene. Surrounding the picnic of fine food and wine there many conversations taking place as one gentleman casually lies back with his feet stretched out and another leans against a tree.
