Bay Islands on postcard from Honduras

The Bay Islands is a group of islands off the coast of Honduras. Collectively, the islands form one of the 18 Departments of Honduras. The departmental capital is Roatan, on the island of Roatán. The total surface area of the islands is 250 km2. The Bay Islands consist of eight islands and 53 small cays lying 15 kilometers to 60 kilometers off the northern coast of Honduras.

Both stamps are from Animals, issued on 24.5.2004. Left one is Tawny Treefrog (Rana arboricola) and right stamp is Brown-throated Sloth (Bradypus variegatus).

Map postcard from Honduras

Honduras is a country in Central America. In the past, it was sometimes referred to as "Spanish Honduras" to differentiate it from British Honduras, which later became modern-day Belize. The republic of Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Honduras was home to several important Mesoamerican cultures, most notably the Maya, before the Spanish invaded in the sixteenth century.

Copán, UNESCO WHS from Honduras

Copán is an archaeological site of the Maya civilization in the Copán Department of western Honduras, not far from the border with Guatemala. It was the capital city of a major Classic period kingdom from the 5th to 9th centuries AD. The city was in the extreme southeast of the Mesoamerican cultural region, on the frontier with the Isthmo-Colombian cultural region, and was almost surrounded by non-Maya peoples.

Fauna cover from Honduras

I received my first cover from Honduras, a country in Central America, once known as Spanish Honduras to differentiate it from British Honduras, which became modern-day Belize.
