Ferari's World title in year 2000 on cover from Modena!

The 2000 FIA Formula One World Championship was the 54th season of FIA Formula One motor racing. Michael Schumacher became Ferrari's first World Drivers' Champion for 21 years having clinched the Drivers' title at the penultimate race of the season. Ferrari successfully defended its Constructors' title.

Inside cover was this beautiful old postcard from Modena  Modena is, along with Turin, one of Italy's main centers of the automotive industry, with a rich history and tradition in this field. The iconic Ferrari brand was founded in Modena by Modenese legendary car tycoon Enzo Ferrari, and today is headquartered just outside the city, in the suburb of Maranello. Several other Italian luxury automobile manufacturers such as Pagani, Lamborghini, and Maserati are headquartered in the Modena area.

On this stamp you can see winning car Ferrari F1-2000. The chassis was designed by Rory Byrne, Aldo Costa and Nikolas Tombazis with Ross Brawn playing a vital role in leading the production of the car as the team's Technical Director and Paolo Martinelli leading the engine design. The car was a direct development of the F300 and F399 from the previous two seasons, using the same basic gearbox and a new engine with a wider V-angle (90 degrees vs. 75 degrees in the 048 engine); this new wider angle improved and lowered the centre of gravity of the car. It also featured improved aerodynamics over the F399 most noticeably a flatter underside of the nose area, which put it on par with that year's McLaren MP4/15.

Thank you so much, Gabriele!

National Alpini Association on cover from Italy

The National Alpini Association is an Italian association representing the "Alpini in congedo" (Alpini on leave) of the Italian Army. The Alpini are a mountain infantry corps of the Italian Army, that distinguished itself in combat during World War I and World War II. As the ANA defines itself a quick reaction reserve corps to the active Alpini units, it has been nicknamed 10th Alpini Regiment. Accordingly, the Italian Army never had a 10th Alpini Regiment. Italian post issued this commemorative stamp on 10.5.2019.

Florence: Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore

The Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore is the main church of Florence, Italy. Il Duomo di Firenze, as it is ordinarily called, was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style with the design of Arnolfo di Cambio and completed structurally in 1436 with the dome engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi.

The cathedral complex, located in Piazza del Duomo, includes the Baptistery and Giotto's Campanile. These three buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the historic centre of Florence and are a major attraction to tourists visiting Tuscany. The basilica is one of Italy's largest churches, and until development of new structural materials in the modern era, the dome was the largest in the world. It remains the largest brick dome ever constructed.

Stamp is  Posta Italiana, Flying cover, issued on 01.12.2014.

Thank you Domitilla!

Leonardo da Vinci

We have received four nice postcards of Leonardo da Vinci in envelope. I and Nina are big admirers of this inventor, painter, sculptor, scientist, engineer, anatomist, geologist, astronomer and overall great mind.

This is Vitruvian man. The drawing, which is in pen and ink on paper, depicts a man in two superimposed positions with his arms and legs apart and inscribed in a circle and square.

This is Aerial Screw. Though the first actual helicopter wasn’t built until the 1940s, it is believed that Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches from the late fifteenth century were the predecessor to the modern day flying machine. As with many of da Vinci’s ideas, he never actually built and tested it – but his notes and drawings mapped out exactly how the device would operate.

This is Mechanical Wing (Circa 1490). He designed a number of man powered flying machines with mechanical wings that flapped.

This is Giant Crossbow. Designed for pure intimidation, da Vinci’s crossbow was to measure 27 yards across. The idea behind the impressive weapon was to terrify enemies into fleeing rather than fighting.

This is complete set Excellence of Knowledge, issued on 2015-10-31.

Thank You very much Giuseppe!

Italy: Como & Milan

I have received 3 nice postcards in one cover.

Como is a city and comune in Lombardy, Italy. It is the administrative capital of the Province of Como. Its proximity to Lake Como and to the Alps has made Como a popular tourist destination and the city contains numerous works of art, churches, gardens, museums, theatres, parks and palaces: the Duomo (seat of Diocese of Como), the Basilica of Sant'Abbondio, the Villa Olmo, the public gardens with the Tempio Voltiano, the Teatro Sociale, the Broletto (the city's medieval town hall) and the 20th century Casa del Fascio. With 215,320 arrivals, Como is the fourth most visited city in Lombardy after Milan, Bergamo and Brescia.

Lake Como is a lake of glacial origin in Lombardy, Italy. It has an area of 146 square kilometres, making it the third-largest lake in Italy. At over 400 metres deep, it is one of the deepest lakes in Europe, and the bottom of the lake is more than 200 metres below sea level. Many famous people have or have had homes on the shores of Lake Como, such as Matthew Bellamy, Madonna, George Clooney, Gianni Versace, Ronaldinho, Sylvester Stallone, Julian Lennon, Richard Branson, Ben Spies, and Pierina Legnani. Lake Como is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe.

Milan is the second-most populous city in Italy, serves as the capital of Lombardy. The city proper has a population of about 1.3 million, while its urban area comprises an estimated 5,264,000 people. The massive suburban sprawl that followed the post-war boom of the 1950s–1960s and the growth of a vast commuter belt suggest that socioeconomic linkages have expanded well beyond the boundaries of its administrative limits and its agglomeration, creating a polycentric metropolitan area of 7 to 10 million people, stretching over the provinces of Milan, Bergamo, Como, Lecco, Lodi, Monza and Brianza, Pavia, Varese and Novara. Milan was founded by the Insubres, a Celtic people.

This lovely stamp is World EXPO 2015, Milano, Italy - Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. Stamp is issued on 2015-07-03.

Thank You very much  Giuseppe!
