Field flowers on cover from Netherlands

Dutch post issued stamp set dedicated to field flowers on 9.4.2018. On this cover you can see two flowers from set, briza and cuckooflower.

Briza is a genus of annual and perennial plants in the grass family, native to northern temperate regions of Eurasia, North Africa, and certain islands in the Atlantic. The group is generally referred to as the quaking grasses because the flowers and seedheads shake on their stalks in the slightest breeze. Some of its members are grown as ornamental plants.

Cardamine pratensis (cuckooflower, lady's smock, mayflower, or milkmaids), is a flowering plant in the family Brassicaceae, native throughout most of Europe and Western Asia. The specific name pratensis is Latin for "meadow."

Thank you, Albert!

Animals in the Dutch Wadden on cover from Netherlands

The Dutch wadden region has five inhabited and three uninhabited islands. The ‘Afsluitdijk’ (Enclosure Dam) forms a solid border with the freshwater IJsselmeer. The sea dikes along the Holland, Frisian and Groningen coasts protect the sea clay regions, formed when the marshes were reclaimed. The German border lies to the east, by the Ems-Dollard estuary. Because the tidal differences in the Dutch Wadden Sea are not great (1 to 2 meters), the currents are relatively low, allowing lots of sand and mud to subside. Many banks lay exposed during low tide, which is good for seals and shorebirds. This wonderful mini sheet is issued on 6.5.2003.

Thank you, Albert!

National flower of Netherlands

I received from Netherlands my first postcard from National flower series by Postcardsmarket.com. Tulips are my first association when i think about The Netherlands. In seventeenth century Netherlands, during the time of the Dutch Golden Age and Tulip mania, an infection of tulip bulbs by the tulip breaking virus created variegated patterns in the tulip flowers that were much admired and valued. This phenomenon was referred to as "broken". While tulips had probably been cultivated in Asia from the tenth century, they did not come to the attention of the west till the sixteenth century, when western diplomats to the Ottoman court observed and reported on them. They were rapidly introduced into Europe and cultivated and became a frenzied commodity during Tulip mania. Breeding programs have produced thousands of hybrid and cultivars in addition to the original species.

Stamp on postcard is from definitive set Dutch Icons, issued on 02.01.2014.

Thank you Chelsea!

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

Fantastic postcard with fantastic stamps! Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones is a 2002 American epic space opera film directed by George Lucas and written by Lucas and Jonathan Hales. It is the second installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ian McDiarmid, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lee, Temuera Morrison, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Frank Oz. The film was released on May 16, 2002. It garnered better reviews from critics than the first prequel, with critics praising the visual effects, action scenes, costume design, John Williams’ musical score, and Ewan McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Stamps are from set Classic Cars (two from ten), Spyker & Duesenberg, issued on 27.01.2014.

Red fox (Vulpes vulpes)

The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the largest of the true foxes and the most abundant wild member of the Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere from the Arctic Circle to North Africa, North America and Eurasia. It is listed as least concern by the IUCN. Its range has increased alongside human expansion, having been introduced to Australia, where it is considered harmful to native mammals and bird populations. Due to its presence in Australia, it is included among the list of the "world's 100 worst invasive species".

Stamp is Dutch icons (from set of fove): Amsterdam House, issued on 03.01.2014.

DIA postcard

I have received DIA postcard from Netherlands. It shows scene from Havana.
The DIA-postcard is a homage to photography. A glossy UV-varnish highlights the special photo motifs and moves them to the center of interest. The slide frame is coated with a mat varnish and the additional deep embossing increases the haptic experience. The contrast between mat and gloss varnish produces a special perception of the beauty of the designs.

Stamp is Borderless Netherlands (from set of six), issued on 14.09.2015.

Thank you Els!

Netherlands: Ir.D.F. Woudagemaal

The ir. D.F. Woudagemaal is a pumping station in the Netherlands, and the largest still operational steam-powered pumping station in the world. On October 7, 1920 Queen Wilhelmina opened the pumping station. It was built to pump excess water out of Friesland, a province in the north of the Netherlands.

In 1967, after running on coal for 47 years, the boilers were converted to run on heavy fuel oil. It has a pumping capacity of 4,000 m³ per minute. The pumping station is currently used to supplement the existing pumping capacity of the J.L. Hooglandgemaal in case of exceptionally high water levels in Friesland; this usually happens a few days per year.

Since 1998 the ir. D.F. Woudagemaal has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

Stamp is The 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo: A portrait of the Prince of Orange, the future King Willem I, issued on 2015-06-22.

Thank You Siene!

Netherlands: PSV Eindhoven

The Philips Sport Vereniging, abbreviated as PSV and internationally known as PSV Eindhoven is a sports club from Eindhoven, Netherlands. It is best known for its professional football department, which plays in the Eredivisie, the Dutch football top division, since its inception in 1956 and, along with Ajax and Feyenoord, it is one of the country's "big three" clubs that have dominated that competition.

The club was founded in 1913 as a team for Philips employees. PSV’s history contains two golden eras revolving around the UEFA Cup victory in 1978 and the 1987–88 European Cup victory as part of the seasonal treble in 1988. The team has won the Eredivisie 22 times, the KNVB Cup nine times and the Johan Cruijff Schaal nine times. Currently, PSV is 28th on the UEFA club coefficients ranking. Throughout the years, PSV established itself as a stepping stone for future world class players like Ruud Gullit, Ronald Koeman, Romário, Ronaldo, Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Arjen Robben.

Stamp is Dutch Icons: Tulip (from set of ten), issued on 2014-01-02.
