Mauritius: Le Morne Brabant

Le Morne Brabant is a peninsula at the extreme southwestern tip of the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius on the windward side of the island. It is highlighted by an eponymous basaltic monolith with a summit 556 metres above sea level. The peninsula was notorious in the early 19th century as a refuge for runaway slaves. After the abolition of slavery in Mauritius, on 1 February 1835 a police expedition was despatched there ostensibly to inform the slaves that they had been freed. At the time the slaves had been using Le Morne summit for many years as a look-out point to spot military despatches from Port Louis being sent to re-capture them. On previous occasions when these attempts had been carried out they had been spotted by the look-outs, the warning issued to the rest of the slaves who chose to leap to their deaths from the rock, rather than be recaptured back into slavery.

Stamp on postcard is The 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Serge Constantin, issued on 28.09.2017.

Old postal stationaries in cover from Austria

I received a cover from Vienna with three old stationaries. One is from Austro-Hungarian Empire, and two other from Kingdom of Serbia. They arrived in cover with six nice stamps: First two stamps are Mountain Church, Eisenstadt, from set Impressions from Austria, issued on 01.03.2015. And four stamps on right side are Cypripedium calceolus - Lady's slipper Orchid, from series Alpine Flowers, issued on 15.01.2008.

This is really interesting piece of history. This is postal stationary from Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was sent from Vienna on 15.10.1896!

And this is mint postal stationary from Kingdom of Serbia, from beginning of 20th century.

This stationary is little bit different. You can fold it after you write your message.

Thank you very much Wolfgang!

British Antarctic Territory: Damoy Hut

I received wonderful postcard from British Antarctic Territory. This surprise postcard sent me my friend Wolfgang, and he is author of this photography. The British Antarctic Territory is a sector of Antarctica claimed by the United Kingdom as one of its 14 British Overseas Territories, of which it is by far the largest by area. It comprises the region south of 60°S latitude and between longitudes 20°W and 80°W, forming a wedge shape that extends to the South Pole, overlapping the Antarctic claims of Argentina and Chile. Most countries do not recognize territorial claims in Antarctica.

This fantastic stamp with nice, clear cancellation is from set The 25th Anniversary of the IAATO - International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators, issued on 13.11.2016.

Thank you Wolfgang!
